Mark Aaron Melton is an associate at the law firm Hunton & Williams LLP, where he focuses on federal income tax issues related to both domestic and international corporate transactions. His expertise includes a broad range of tax matters, including private equity and hedge funds, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border investments and tax-exempt entities. He is an adjunct lecturer at the Cox School of Business at SMU where he teaches in the graduate tax program, and is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Melton has demonstrated a commitment to serving others through his legal expertise. He trains volunteers through the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide free tax counseling to low-income residents, and volunteers with the State Bar of Texas’ Tax Court pro-bono program. He serves on the Legal/Risk Management committee for Big Thought, a not-for-profit organization focused on improving public education; on the board of directors of Helping Restore Ability, a not-for-profit organization that provides home care for the disabled; on the steering committee for the Tower Club’s annual Charity Classic fundraiser; and on the Hunton & Williams pro bono committee.  Additionally, he volunteers with the North Texas Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Melton is also part of the United Way Young Leaders Society’s Engagement Committee, where he encourages and recruits local young professionals to support the United Way.

Mr. Melton is active in several professional organizations, including chairing several committees within the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association, where he serves on various committees that focus on improving education through partnerships between schools and the legal community. Earlier this year, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers named Mr. Melton “One to Watch” in recognition of his accomplishments.  He was also recently awarded the E. Randolph Williams award for outstanding pro-bono service by his law firm. He holds bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington and a law degree from Southern Methodist University.
