Monica Egert SmithCommunity Philanthropy Director – Communities Foundation of Texas
As Community Philanthropy Director for the Communities Foundation of Texas, Monica Egert Smith is on the forefront of the organization’s efforts to build relationships with nonprofit organizations and other key community stakeholders in order to fully understand the needs within our community. She oversees the Foundation’s discretionary/competitive grants and helps individual donors achieve their charitable goals by making them aware of community needs that match their interests and passions.
Ms. Smith previously served as Community Services Operations Manager and Senior Director of Community Services for The Dallas Morning News and WFAA-TV, where she oversaw more than 150 Dallas-based sponsorships and programs and managed The Dallas Morning News Charities campaign. During her tenure, the annual campaign raised more than $4.25 million to benefit local agencies that serve the hungry and homeless. Before moving to Dallas in 1998, Ms. Smith served as Communications Officer for the Ohio Bicentennial Celebration, where she planned and organized media coverage, community outreach and special events to drive the celebration’s visibility and success.
Ms. Smith currently serves on the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ Brand Leadership Council and on the board of Volunteers of America Texas. She has served as a judge for the Center for Nonprofit Management’s “Night of Light” Awards, is a Leadership Dallas alum, and a provisional member of the Junior League of Dallas. Ms. Smith graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
